Louisiana's coastal marshes hold some of the best inshore fishing in the Gulf, and Captain Chad's 3-person full day charter puts you right in the heart of it. Starting at 6 AM, you'll have the whole day to work the prime spots where speckled trout, redfish, black drum, sheepshead, and flounder call home. This isn't your typical crowded fishing trip – with just three anglers max, you get personalized attention and plenty of room to fish. Whether you're a complete beginner or you've been chasing Louisiana reds for years, Captain Chad tailors the experience to your skill level and keeps things fun while putting you on fish.
Your day kicks off early in Louisiana's legendary marsh country, where the brackish waters create perfect conditions for our top-rated inshore species. Captain Chad knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he'll position you over grass beds, oyster reefs, and structure where fish concentrate. The boat comes loaded with quality rods, reels, and all the terminal tackle you'll need – from popping corks for trout to bottom rigs for drum. You'll learn to read the water, understand tidal movements, and pick up techniques that'll make you a better angler long after this trip ends. The marsh scenery changes throughout the day as tides shift, opening up new fishing opportunities and keeping the action fresh from morning until afternoon.
Inshore fishing in Louisiana calls for versatility, and Captain Chad's got the setup to handle whatever the day throws at you. You'll fish everything from shallow grass flats using topwater plugs and soft plastics to deeper channels with live bait under popping corks. When the trout are schooled up, you might find yourself casting spoons or paddle tails to surface-feeding fish. For redfish, expect to work the shorelines with gold spoons, soft crabs, or live shrimp depending on conditions. The boat's equipped with multiple rod setups so you can switch between techniques quickly as fish behavior changes. Captain Chad teaches proper hook sets, fighting techniques, and how to handle these species safely for photos and release. The shallow-draft boat lets you access skinny water spots that bigger boats can't reach, giving you first crack at undisturbed fish.
"Went out yesterday with my uncle on Captain Chad's boat, it was a unique and fun experience. Great at teaching and explaining techniques for those who are new to fishing like myself. He will try his absolute best to put you on the best spots to catch fish. Overall it was a good time we had while on his boat" - J. "Went out with captain Chad yesterday and today SLAYED the trout! Caught some monster reds as well, but the best part of the trip was without a doubt the company. Chad was a blast to hang out with he handles the boat and knows the area very well. He is definitely a clients first Captain, we are looking forward to our next trip with him already. As I told him this afternoon he has a client for life here." - Ethan. "Had an awesome fishing trip recently with Captain Chad. Our original scheduled trip was impacted due to bad weather but he was flexible and easily worked us in on another date. We had a great time, caught some fish, and was entertained all day with Chad's great sense of humor. I highly recommend fishing with this guy. We have already booked another trip." - Dave.
Speckled trout are the bread and butter of Louisiana inshore fishing, and for good reason. These beautiful fish love the grass beds and drop-offs throughout the marsh, especially during moving tides. Keeper trout run 15-25 inches on average, but don't be surprised to hook into a "gator trout" pushing 5-6 pounds. They hit soft plastics, live shrimp, and topwater baits with aggressive strikes that'll get your heart pumping. Spring through fall offers the most consistent action, with early morning and late afternoon being prime time. What makes trout fishing so addictive is their willingness to bite and the way they fight – strong runs and head shakes that keep you guessing until they're in the net.
Redfish are Louisiana legends, and catching one never gets old. These copper-colored bulldogs patrol the shallows, often tailing in knee-deep water where you can sight-cast to individual fish. Bull reds over 27 inches are pure muscle, capable of smoking drag and testing your patience during long fights. The slot-size fish between 16-27 inches make excellent table fare and provide steady action throughout the year. Reds feed aggressively on crabs, shrimp, and small baitfish, making them willing targets for both artificial and live baits. Peak season runs from late spring through early winter, with fall offering some of the most consistent fishing as reds fatten up for cooler months.
Black drum often surprise anglers with their size and fighting ability. These bottom-dwellers cruise oyster reefs and shell beds, using their powerful jaws to crush crabs and shellfish. Smaller drum in the 5-15 pound range are great eating, while the big bulls over 30 pounds provide memorable battles on medium tackle. They're year-round residents but seem most active during cooler months when they school up in deeper channels. Drum fishing requires patience – they're deliberate feeders that pick up baits carefully, so you'll learn to detect subtle bites and time your hook sets perfectly.
Sheepshead earn their nickname "convict fish" with distinctive black stripes, but their reputation as bait stealers is what most anglers remember. These reef dwellers have human-like teeth perfect for crushing barnacles and small crabs around structure. They're finicky biters that require light tackle and quick reflexes, making every hookup a small victory. Sheepshead typically run 2-5 pounds with occasional larger specimens
